GuidiGO: Digital Storytelling Mobile Platform http://florida2018.thatcamp.org/2018/02/23/guidigo-digital-storytelling-mobile-platform/ Fri, 23 Feb 2018 22:50:50 +0000 http://florida2018.thatcamp.org/?p=198 Continue reading ]]>

GuidiGO is a digital storytelling mobile platform that utilizes a suite of user-friendly technologies to engage and excite audiences. I’m working on a project that uses GuidiGO for its Augmented Reality features; however, for the purposes of THATCamp, I’ve put together a short ‘Historical Tour of UCF Campus Buildings’ that are near Teaching Academy. It can be found here.

I will be going over more of GuidiGO’s features during the session but I highly encourage everyone to take a digital stroll around campus and check it out!

Like last year, we’d like to pre-schedule a GIS workshop, a “lightning round,” that focuses on the new graduate and undergraduate certificate programs at UCF and some of the humanities- and social sciences-oriented work being produced by faculty and students. This would mimic the Digital Project LightningRound sessions held at THATCamp and the American Historical Association annual meetings, with 3-minute presentations followed (if time allows) by questions and informal discussion.

The Session has been planned for 1:30. To get on the schedule contact Dr. Tiffany Early-Spadoni at Tiffany.Earley-Spadoni@ucf.edu

“Field of Cures”: Prototype video game about clinical trials http://florida2018.thatcamp.org/2018/02/08/field-of-cures-prototype-video-game-about-clinical-trials/ Thu, 08 Feb 2018 20:31:26 +0000 http://florida2018.thatcamp.org/?p=176 Continue reading ]]>

I’m working on the core mechanics for a casual video game about discovering cures for diseases by hybridizing plants and testing medicines in a simplified clinical trials process. I would love to have some fellow digital humanists try out my prototype and give me their feedback as well as any suggestions about how a game could teach people a bit of biomedical science while still being fun to play for a broad market of players.

This past fall, with support from an ACS/R1 planning grant, Julian Chambliss @julianchambliss (Rollins College/History) and Scot French @scotfrench (University of Central Florida/History) organized a Digital Literacy and Collaborative Learning Workshop to explore ways to promote community in the classroom, develop collaborative projects, and create digital narratives using methods and tools linked to digital humanities.

This session will feature brief “lightning round” style presentations by participants in the recent DLCL workshop. Each five-minute presentation will provide an overview of the lesson plans they developed based on methods and tools participants explored.

Participants include:

Rollins College

  • Nancy Decker
  • Amy Parziale ( @ProfessorParz )
  • Daniel Myer
  • Rachel Walton

University of Central Florida

*Thanks to the generosity of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) awards planning grants to support partnership and collaboration between liberal arts and Research 1 institutions.
