I am a second year student in the University of Central Florida's Public History Masters Program. I have worked both as a teaching assistant and a research assistant within the history department, the latter connecting me with Dr. Beiler and her historical social network visualization project. My own research, my master’s thesis, deals with the visibility of women in traditionally masculine Scottish national narratives as evidenced by their physical representation in the heritage landscape. The last chapter will include a data visualization component to help better conceptualize the density and distribution of monuments and memorials to women in comparison to men in several major Scottish cities. My work seeks to bridge gaps not only within historical understandings of nationalism and its manifestation, but also between disciplines like history, women’s and gender studies, cultural heritage management, political science, and tourism studies.
